What We Need Now Is A Good Ol’ Fashioned Rapture

*if anyone would like the citations of the Bible and texts I used just ask*

Five months ago today it was all supposed to be all downhill. The “Lord” was to arrive with the sounding of a great trumpet and gather both the living and the dead. However, the man who made this prediction, Harold Camping, was wrong. Not to fret, he was only off by five months. Now after months of anticipation and all the preparations you Doomsday enthusiasts have made; its not looking so hot again.

“How could Harold Camping be wrong?! We have anxiously awaited the second coming of Jesus Christ so he may lift us up to Heaven and we may be absolved of any suffering during the End Times.”

What Ever Happened to Free Speech?

AH

On October 3, 2011, Hank Williams, Jr. appeared on the daily morning talk show, Fox and Friends. He was asked how he felt about the upcoming election and who he preferred in the GOP race. Williams, Jr. then, with what seemed like a Herculean effort, blurted, “Nobody.” He then went on to allegorically  associated a golf game between political party leaders with the likeness of Hitler playing golf with Netanyahu. (For those of you not certain who Netanyahu is; Benjamin Netanyahu is the current Prime Minister of Israel.)

Williams, Jr. continued by shouting, “OBAMA!”, in response to a request to explain whom he was referring to as the enemy. He made perfectly clear that the aforementioned golf game was the biggest political blunder, “ever.” Furthermore, Williams, Jr. reiterated time after time how against bipartisanship he was.

Today, October 5, 2011, Monday Night Football (product of ESPN, ultimately controlled by Disney), whom Hank had been the “voice and face” of since 1991,  essentially announced that they gave Ol’ Hank a corporation sized cowboy boot to the curb. Williams, Jr. has responded in anger declaring a violation of his 1st amendment rights (Free Speech), saying he himself has decided to leave. It seemed like a mutual departure. Regardless, when the story broke, a majority of the masses shared Williams, Jr.’s outrage. Their arguments also hinge on the value and more importantly the RIGHT of Free Speech.

“Support our Troops”: The Real War in America

AH

Firstly, allow me to apologize for such a delay in postings. I started my first year at law school and this is absolutely the first free time I have had since about August 14th. Secondly, arguably more importantly, I know I’m going to get lambasted for this article. I promise you, there is a point if you make it to the end. So please, as a disclaimer, I admit “journalistic” freedom here from my title. However, I can almost guarantee that if you have read this far it is based partially on my controversial title. Now let’s get to the crux of my blabbering.

This morning, at approximately 9:15 AM, I started on an estimated commute of 6.5 miles from Lakewood to Parma, Ohio. Lakewood, as many people in the greater Cleveland area would attest is known for its more liberal than moderate nature. On the other hand, Parma is known for the opposite, its conservative blue-collar constituency. The very moment I exited the city limits of Lakewood I noticed the car, who so egregiously pulled out in front of me, had two of the classic “Support our Troops” magnets on her car.

Today’s The Day the Music Died

On May 26, 1971, Don McLean recorded his single, American Pie. Containing cryptic messages spread throughout the lyrics McLean remembers the, “Day the music died.” The day in question is in reference to the infamous plane crash that killed Buddy Holly, The Big Bopper, and Richie Valens. However, as we have the privilege retrospect, we know the music had not died. In fact, it flourished.

Unfortunately, on August 9, 1995, the music did in fact die. Today is the 16th anniversary of the death of Jerry Garcia. Found dead in his room at a rehabilitation clinic he died of an apparent heart attack. The years of drug abuse had finally caught up to him. His ashes were later spread in both the San Francisco Bay and the Ganges River (for whatever reason Bob found fitting).

Who Killed the…Blues?

#2 of a 5 part series

Recap: Music Television (MTV) acted extremely volatile and corroded away what was one of the most celebrated portions of Americana, the guitar solo.

Now that we have established what was subsequently the final blow to the guitar solo featured in what many radio stations now dub, “classic rock”; where do we even go from here? Perhaps a good place to start is where did they go? Maybe an even more pertinent question is where did they come from? To answer that question were going to have to board the Magic School Bus. (Always worth while to include a MSB reference).

Christianity: The Dilemma of being Religious in a Western Society

AH

*Disclaimer: I don’t affiliate myself with any group, this is purely observational*

A little over 2000 years ago a man was born of meager background:

“And she brought forth her first-born son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn. Luke 2:7”

Although there is little historical or even scriptural proof of this event, it is a mainstay in popular Christian beliefs that their Messiah, Jesus Christ, was born in a stable full of animals. Furthermore, he was born of a virgin, Mary, and was wrapped in blankets as they had no clothes for him.

Who Killed the…Guitar Gods?

Blog #1 of a 5 part series

With the 30th anniversary of the launch of MTV just around the corner, I couldn’t help but think about the classic footage we all saw when we were young: The space shuttle launching, the multicolored MTV flag, the iconic, “Ladies and Gentleman, Rock and Roll”, the whole nine yards. Music was alive, disco was dead (or at least on life support), and finally it seemed as if a symbolic mouthpiece of the younger generation had been installed. I believe it is safe to say that this sentiment actually lasted for some time. I remember being twelve years old, a little over 19 years after the initial broadcast, and watching Limp Bizkit win the award for Best Rock Video. Suddenly, the band I originally had thought was amazing was shocked by a member of the audience storming the stage and climbing the thirty-plus foot tall set. After a few moments we all learned it was Tim Commerford, the bassist of Rage Against the Machine. Sparked I immediate sought out RATM and thus began my passion for music, all thanks to MTV. Hey, Kids Its Me…Koko/Who’s This Casey Anthony Character?

AH

Hey guys, I guess I’m on board now. I’m going to be blunt when I say this but, having a window into my mind may be a new experience for most of you. I have no boundaries and I usually say whatever I believe to be the “right” thing to say. Basically this is going to be similar to when you were seven and your parents sat you down and told you were going to have a little brother or sister. Be honest, no one was pumped at first but hopefully all your younger siblings have grown on you. I hope I can too. My real names Andy, but for the sake of this blog you can call me Koko. Now let’s get to the real meat and potatoes of this hot mess. It’s a topic that’s been really chapping my ass as of late and even though I am certain I’ll receive several death threats after this is read…. Continue reading
